The Telegraph begins this year as they left the last.

The Telegraph has started off the New Year as they leave 2012 with the same old cons they have become so proficient at.

On the front page we find an article which Sherrie Marshall and her crew have carefully shaped to their needs. In an article with a heading provided by The Telegraph, “White House, congressional leaders reach budget deal” we find some problems. In the first place the heading is dishonest and absolutely wrong.

Any student with a half way decent education would know that “congressional leaders” indicates both leaders of the Senate and House of Representatives. As we all know by now the House of Representatives has agreed to nothing.

The Telegraph has taken a 1,200 word article from McClatchy Newspapers, The Telegraph’s parent corporation, by Anita Kumar and William Douglas used what they wanted and discarded the rest.
You can see the entire article at: White House, congressional leaders reach budget deal.

Other things included in the article as found in a version by the Tri-City Herald in an article titled: Teetering at cliff, White House, congressional leaders reach budget deal. The material on Richardson and Harkin’s military service are from the sources as noted.

It looks like what The Telegraph did not want you to know is that:
“The compromise’s future remained in doubt with both Republicans and Democrats publicly criticizing the deal as Congress returned to the Capitol in the hopes of voting to avert the so-called fiscal cliff.”
Sen. Tom Harkin, D-Iowa, said he was disappointed that Democrats were abandoning their promise to extend only those Bush-era tax cuts on individual income below $200,000 and family income below $250,000. Republicans had been pushing to extend all of the tax cuts."
“The direction they’re headed is just absolutely the wrong direction for our country,” he said. “As I see this thing developing – quite frankly, as I’ve said before – no deal is better than a bad deal, and this looks like a very bad deal, the way this is shaking up.”
As an aside, we might note that Sen. Tom Harking, D-Iowa has something in common with The Telegraph’s Editorial Page Editor Charles E. Richardson.

One (Richardson) has a hard time remembering why he does not have any military Service. You can see that story at: What about his credibility?  The part about Richardson’s military service is toward the end of the posting.

On the other hand Harkin cannot remember what he did while he was in the service. But then he is a Democrat and as a general rule they expect people to look over such as this.

At a web site called Instapundit you can see an excerpt from a book by B.G. Burkett and Glenna Whitley titled Stolen Valor about Harkin. It is not pretty. But then such as this is a leg up for a Democrat!

The book is well worth reading for anyone interested in how the media of that era scammed the people about the war in Vietnam.
The excerpt is from page 182 of the book and we quote it here:
“During a 1992 bid for the presidency, Sen. Tom Harking of Iowa Claimed that he had served as a pilot in Vietnam. His claim had surfaced eight years before, during a 1984 bid for reelection to the Senate, when Harkin boasted that he had served one year in Vietnam flying F-4s and F-8s on combat air patrols and photo-reconnaissance support missions. Challenged by Sen. Barry Goldwater, Harkin did a quick shuffle, claiming that he had actually flown combat sorties over Cuba during the sixties. Harkin finally admitted he had not seen combat but had served as a ferry pilot stationed in Atsugi, Japan, flying aircraft to be repaired from Atsugi to the Philippines. When pressed by reporters to explain how much time he really spent in Vietnam, Harkin estimated that over a year, he flew in and out of Vietnam a dozen or so times. But Harkin’s military record showed no Vietnam service decorations. He finally conceded he had not flown combat air Patrols in Vietnam and began describing himself as a Vietnam era Vet. (Foot note 301 – James M. Perry, “Harkin Presidential Bid Marred by Instances in which Candidate Appears to Stretch Truth,” The Wall Street Journal, December 26, p. 32.)
Back to what The Telegraph did not want you to know!  Others abandoning Obama are:
“Progressive groups, including the AFL-CIO and MoveOn.org, lobbied Democrats to vote against the compromise.”
“The public is paying attention, and we urge all Democrats to stand on principle at this moment,” the Progressive Change Campaign Committee wrote in a statement. “The current deal violates progressive principles. It should be opposed.”
"At a campaign-style event at the Old Executive Office Building across the street from the White House, Obama urged Congress to pass a bill as soon as possible to protect middle-class taxpayers."
“Preventing that tax hike has been my top priority, because the last thing folks like the folks up here on this stage can afford right now is to pay an extra $2,000 in taxes next year,” he said in an auditorium with a group of cheering people behind him and in the audience. ‘Middle-class families can’t afford it. Businesses can’t afford it. Our economy can’t afford it.”
“The White House refused to identify any of the people or say how it knew they were in the middle class.”
Of course to this: Sen Bob Corker, R-Tenn. Points out that:
“I know the president has fun heckling Congress…” and “It’s unfortunate that he doesn’t spend as much time working on solving problems as he does with campaigns and pep rallies.”
Just one more con for The Telegraph!

Have a nice day.
