More history
We have looked at their endorsement several times and we can only conclude that they endorsed him because of their own reasons. We would like to be very clear here. We do not care who they endorse or why. What we find despicable is when they do something like this and try to pass it off as community service.
When we look back at how The Telegraph has attempted to cover up what they have done, or at least that is what it looks like to us, we find it disgusting.
Let’s look at their endorsement. They start with “When historians explore…” the election and “…after the glow of the moment has worn dim…”, they then speculate about what the historians will find. They then go into his genetics, which has to be a first. They then speculate about “…what will be most striking to historians will be the resonance of the word ‘change’ but not in the sense that Obama used it….” Then to be politically correct they ramble on about “…two men of such character…” who are running. However one of the individuals according to them has what some people may consider a serious problem. They declare that; because he chose Palin, a female for running mate and because he suspended his campaign “…during the height of a financial meltdown…” and he declared "the fundamentals of our economy ‘are sound’”… They declared that John “McCain’s grip on 21st century realities is questionable.”
Let us look at that for a moment. Most reasonable people equate “fundamentals” with foundations. Were they trying to tell the reader the foundation and fundamentals of this country were not sound? What about now? Their man is running a deficit of approximately 1.5 trillion dollars annually and has no plans to change! Is that what they were endorsing when they were talking about “…21st century realities”…?
They endorsed Obama because he has “style and substance” It was noted ‘That substance includes a keen intellect and posture to help him navigate the pressing issues bombarding our nation.” Then there is something about him having “…a unique ability to inspire cross culturally.” What ever in the hell that means? Folks you can see the whole damn thing in its entirety right here. Maybe we are looking at it wrong, if we are let us know.
If there is anyone out there who thinks this endorsement makes sense for a so-called newspaper, which is supposed to be run by reasonable educated people, please contact us we want to hear from you.
To us it reeks of a bigoted and self-serving attitude. But then honestly it is not that much different than their previous endorsement to this office. As we have said we do not care who they endorse. It is their façade about community service, leadership, etc., etc. that is so disgusting.
In her little scam “To endorse candidates or not” Executive Editor, Sherrie Marshall talks about “…the newspaper’s role as a leader and critical voice in the community.” To read this you would think these people had a heart felt concern about the community.
However it is evident to any reasonable person who has followed The Telegraph this is not the case. They have an agenda, which seems to dictate what they do and what they report. There is nothing that can prove this more than their pathetic endorsement for the President of the United States. Everyone should see what they consider an endorsement.
We just have to doubt what President and Publisher George McCanless of The Telegraph told us in an e-mailed dated Friday, July 23, 2010 when he said “our commitment is to THIS community, and I am very comfortable we demonstrated that commitment today as we try to do every day.” He then went on to demonstrate his commitment some ten months later. This is when he wrote an editorial telling the reader he was pulling home delivery out of 24 counties. Of course depending on how you look at it he was probably doing them a favor.
In an editorial in April 2009 McCanless appeared to recognize that it was the readers that drive The Telegraph. As he put it “At the end of the day it is you, our readers and advertisers, who will decide the future of the Telegraph.” He seems to have forgotten that the paper is a product and if the people do not get what they want they will not buy it. In this case the product the people want is the truth. They want to know what is going on so they can make informed decisions. The Telegraph has failed miserable in this area. They had to know this for years there have been letters to that effect. The Telegraph ignored them. Again we go back to their endorsements for high office, again we go back to their endorsement of Obama. Not because Obama was their choice. It was because of the very shallowness, the lack of substance and last but not the least it was completely useless to an individual seeking information on which they could make an intelligent decision. The endorsement was useless, it only succeeded in feeding the bigotry so prevalent at The Telegraph.
They have since stopped providing any coverage, which will make Obama, the individual they endorsed look bad. How much coverage have they provided in the “Fast and Furious” gun running program? How much on the hearings into this atrocity which has caused the death of hundreds to include the death of two federal agents. According to the hearings stimulus money was used for the program. Obama, their man, authorized it. Eric Holder has been caught in several lies on the subject.
They are hell bent on ignoring anything the democrats do which does not look good. Did they report Rep. Maxine Waters and her diatribe where she shouted to the audience that the “Tea party can go to hell”? You can bet your bottom dollar that if it had been a tea party member telling Maxine Waters to “go to hell” it would be front page, just like their 60% farce which they run on the front page. You can see it here!
You never heard about the health care waivers. They have not reported the fact that; “Rep. Andre Carson, a Democrat from Indiana who serves as the CBC’s chief vote counter, said at a CBC event in Miami that some in Congress would “love to see us as second-class citizens” and “some of them in Congress right now of this tea party movement would love to see you and me ... hanging on a tree.”
You can see it here.
Again, this would have been all over the front page if it had been a tea party member that said this about one of the “Congressional Black Caucus” members.
This is disgusting, bigoted and nothing more than a flimflam. It does no good to contact The Telegraph. They will not respond, therefore all we can do is hope to get the word out some other way. The e-mail we referred to above is the last time we have had any contact with them. We did send a couple of letters by certified mail. Of course the United States Post Office lost one of them. They did refund the cost.
As we have said before the people of middle Georgia need a newspaper, but they need one they can depend on. One that provides honest news and sees fit to do away with the bigotry. We do not think this will happen until we get the attention of McClatchy, the people that own it, or it changes hands.
These people can deny it, they can lie about it or they can ignore it. The one thing they can not do is change it!
