The Telegraph as usual took the article and cut it to 490 words added their own title giving credit to Obama and run it. There title for the article was “Gadhafi death is a victory for Obama”
On The Telegraph’s morning show called News Talk Central which is aired over a local radio and TV Station with the host being none other than The Telegraph’s Visiting Member, Kenny Burgamy and the Editorial Page Editor, Charles E. Richardson.
Richardson poses a question for the program every weekday that is discussed on the morning show. Today’s question was: “Does President Obama deserve credit for the ouster of Moammar Gadhafi?” He then provides two answers for the reader to choose from. 1) No, it was Nato (sic) 2) Yes, Nato (sic) is the U.S.
Things began as usual and ran smoothly until Burgamy questioned the title of the article. The story did not support the article as concocted by The Telegraph even though Richardson claimed it did. He admitted that the title was the work of The Telegraph. And made the statement that the title supported the story which is a complete fabrication. Obama has not as of this time claimed a victory!
Bob Kohn in his book “Journalistic Fraud” devotes chapter four to this. The chapter is titled “Distorting the Headline.” He quotes the “Style Guide of the Detroit News (1924)” – “The function of the head is to tell the facts, not to give the writer’s comments on the facts.”
Well anyone who has followed The Telegraph knows they violate this truism with a stunning regularity.
It was surprising to hear Bergamy point out the facts. He did appear to be surprised that The Telegraph would manipulate things to scam the people of middle Georgia. We found this amusing, as he has been known to go along.
Although both articles mention an AP-GfK poll it is not what they need to complete this little flim-flam. Now if AP-GfK will just follow through with another pseudopoll for the front page that will bring Obama’s ratings up to 60 or 70 percent everything will be complete. It needs to be something on the order of what we call their “60 percent” scam. You can see that here.
You can see The Telegraph’s version of the story right here, then you can decide for yourself.
