We have to wonder, there was a front-page store in The Telegraph today (March 14, 2012) titled “Hart Faces conflict of interest claim”. Of course the conflict involves the “Macon Miracle” and Dr. Dallemand. It is well known that Dr. Dallemand is the Bibb County School Superintendent and he likes to dine well during his frequent travel. He has this in common with our president. It seems as if Dr. Dallemand is taking everyone to lunch if he thinks they can help. Of course this is on the taxpayer’s money.
In this broad examination of ethics Editorial Page Editor Charles Richardson points to a Wall Street Ethics piece, which has appeared in the news. We found this some how a little odd. Back in December of 2009 when asked about the lack of coverage of the war and this administration he advised us that:
“The Telegraph is carrying less national and international news because it has had to reduce its number of pages this year. Naturally, we try to focus on events and issues in Middle Georgia with the space we have now.”
But then they have always had an excuse for everything. If you recall they provided no coverage of the run up to the Massachusetts Special Senate Election that was held on January 19, 2010. After questions as to why not began to surface they succumbed and five days later trotted out an excuse.
Then it occurred to us that this was the same Editorial Page Editor Charles Richardson that shared a “lousy lunch” with Dr. Dallemand on the taxpayers dime back in June. We wonder if he felt short changed? This was the subject of a column by President and Publisher George McCanless in a column titled “In The Pocket”. This appeared in The Telegraph on March 04, 2012. Of course, like the “third rate burglary” in 1972 McCanless minimized it and declared “So let me set this to rest right now.”
So we have two stories here about ethics some are slammed hard and some are given a pass. The Editorial Page Editor of The Macon Telegraph has documented ethics violations to his credit and was a leading figure in the charade which occurred this morning. His ethics violation were never mentioned.
Kenny Burgamy, the perfect Republican, played his role to the hilt. It looked to us as if he did not dare mention the past ethics violations of Editorial Page Editor Charles Richardson. We can only surmise that is because President and Publisher George McCanless has “set this to rest”.
Burgamy, the perfect Republican, has done this same thing in the past. He mentioned “fast and furious” in a conversation with Erick Erickson one morning and said he wanted to talk about it in the future. We have not heard anymore about it. This is somewhat like Green Energy and Solyndra. If you are carrying the water for this administration, these are things you just do not talk about.
Maybe it just slipped Burgamy's mind that The Telegraph and staff under the so-called leadership of President and Publisher George McCanless had “set” that to rest also. The Telegraph sure as hell have not covered the story. We do not really know why, it could be because of Alvin More and the local connections.
McCanless mentioned “…the integrity of this newspaper and this profession…”, well as hard as it may sound, on a scale of 1 to 10, with the New York Times being a 10 The Telegraph would come in at a 2 and maybe that is over rated.
There is more to come on this. Editorial Page Editor Charles Richard’s conduct badly needs an examination. We realize this will cause an attack with fangs bared and teeth snapping. Or it may cause him too as he puts it he has “…resisted writing…” to us. It may bring out President and Publisher George McCanless who will certainly want to “set” it to rest.
We think the perfect Republican Kenny Burgamy may weigh in. So be it.
Have a nice day.
